From one dream to another

Family

When Dwight and Shelly graduated from UW-Madison they knew their calling was to continue their families’ dairy farming traditions. Settling on Dwight’s home farm, the two started a new life together. Dwight fully dedicated his time to farming, while Shelly worked off the farm managing and facilitating educational programs. Soon they were raising their growing family and investing time in non-farm youth to instill a love for agriculture in the hearts of those who didn’t have a farm of their own.

Though they were born with a love for farming, they never dreamed they would restore farm buildings a century-and-a-half old. But together they have. Raising their three children on their farm and working side by side, Dwight and Shelly each represented the sixth generation to farm. Today, their college-educated children share the dream to operate the farm Dwight’s ancestors had all the way back in the mid-1800s. Devin, Cassandra and Dylan represent the seventh generation to reap the rewards of the land and enjoy the family connection to Folk Song Farm.
